From Treaties to Prosperity

Date:
Tue, 03/20/2012
For the month of March, Movement Building is relocating to bring the Why Treaties Matter exhibit into our conversation about Native American sovereignty. The exhibit provides an important backdrop for talking about contemporary community and sustainability with guest speaker Justin Hueneman, Executive Director of the Native American Community Development Institute (NACDI). NACDI is advancing the concept of sovereignty in an urban context. Justin will share the story of how the local community is successfully building and redefining itself, first with a vision of what it "has" and from there creating a plan to secure what it needs. Join us for Movement Building the 3rd Tuesday of each month September through April. Be part of the conversation as we discuss issues related to social, racial, economic and environmental justice and transform emerging ideas into mainstream values!

The Movement Building question seems to be--how do you really engage a community to be informed and in agreement enough to move forward, moving from advocacy to organizing and making real change.
