How can one stand aside while our state’s child sex trade flourishes? And why do we pour millions into school athletics while services for the disabled remain under-funded? And why are the benefits of love and commitment are not available to gays and lesbians? And why do women still get paid 33 percent less for the same work? When it comes to human and civil rights, the criteria for membership are pretty broad. Are you human? Check. A member of our society? Check. So you would think equality based on these criteria would be easier. Well, we’re working on it.
