Veronica Mendez
In 2002, Veronica became an Organizer at the HERE Local 1 Union in Chicago where she worked for over three years organizing hotel workers to fight for and achieve improved working conditions, as well as dignity and respect on the job. Following that, she worked as a Community Organizer for a non-profit neighborhood based affordable housing developer, Latin United Community Housing Association (LUCHA) for 2 years. Veronica organized low-income residents to fight for more city and state resources to be allocated to the development of affordable housing. Throughout her organizing experience Veronica has developed leadership amongst workers and community residents so people we be able to build power in their communities and have a voice in decisions that affect them both at work and at home. Currently, Veronica Mendez is an organizer at Centro de Trabajadores Unidos en la Lucha (CTUL; Center of Workers United in Struggle). For almost four years, she has organized and developed leadership with low-wage workers to fight for fair wages and working conditions in different industries across the Twin Cities. As part of her work at CTUL, Veronica worked to develop an all low-wage worker led Board that currently drives the organization.
