Duke Gomez-Schempp
Lead Organizer People’s Press Project, Moorhead, MN and Fargo, ND.
Duke lives in Moorhead, MN and had been a Community Organizer and nonprofit Executive Director for the past 20 years. Duke has organized welfare recipients, the mentally ill, low-income neighborhoods organizations, apartment tenements, and has trained, and developed leaders for two decades. Duke graduated from MSUM-Moorhead in 1983 with a Bachelor’s of Art in Anthropology. He currently is the Administrator/Organizer of the People’s Press Project. The People’s Press Project is the Fargo-Moorhead non-profit arm of the High Plains Reader and a media justice organization dedicated to development of journalists, research, education, technology, and equal access to media. His current work at PPP has focused on creating transparency and more public accountability through videotaping local government meetings; mentoring and training the next generation of journalists; and to exploring affordable and accessible cutting edge media technology to make available to the public. Duke is serving his second term on the Headwaters Foundation for Justice Board of Directors and has served 9 years on the Grants Committee of the Social Justice Fund.
